Connect the Dots

Making abstract art is like going on an adventure. There is very little planning up front and a whole lot of trusting the process.

I might have an idea about a color palette or a technique I want to use, but after that anything can happen. As I work with fluid acrylics, and when the spray bottle hits the paint, I never know what will happen.

Every action I take on the canvas completely changes how all the other elements look and feel. There's no way to see the future except to take one step at a time and trust that the outcome will be worth it.

This quote by Steve Jobs really hit home for me today. "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust something - your gut, destiny, karma, life, whatever."

I never would have dreamed that painting would be such an exercise in surrender, in letting go.
