Making art is about figuring out what ignites a spark in you and translating it onto the canvas.
It is about taking risks, making mistakes, failing and then trying again (and repeat). It's about letting go of the rules and restraint and allowing spontaneity to thrive.
When something that moves me shows up on the canvas, I know I'm getting somewhere. This painting took a while to reach that point... but it's coming close to giving me that feeling of fascination where I can't look away.
Right now I'm working on the idea of portals that let us have a glimpse from this world into the next. Some people call them "thin places" where a spiritual realm is in reach. Or perhaps portals are how we catch a glimpse of the divine or the ultimate life force.
When I feel a sense of wonder, a sense of awe in my work, I know I'm on the right track.
